Humanity ages, Filipino changes
Do you love your own
your country? Will you risk your life just to save your country? Well, those
who love their country has the right to live and be with it. “We cannot free
ourselves unless we move forward united in a single desire” a quotation stated
by Emilio Aguinaldo who was the first president of the Republic of the
Philippines. We, Filipinos are known for our positive traits like being
hospitable to others, having bayanihan or
being cooperative and possessing bravery.
Many generations have passed and within those years,
majority of people became heroes. The first Filipino hero was Lapu-Lapu who was
known in the Battle of Mactan with Ferdinand Magellan. He was a brave chieftain
who possessed bravery whom led many Filipino to triumph back then. Thus imagine
this, what if Lapu-Lapu possesses the same characteristics, leadership and
power as Alexander the Great or Napoleon Bonaparte? Do you think the history of
the Philippines will change? Do you think that Philippines will be known as one
of the mighty country in the world? Or do you think we would not be occupied or
invaded by Spain or USA? For me, I think that if that really would have
happened, Philippine will be one of the most developed country in the world,
just because of that one Filipino Hero that has strong and influential
characteristics.
Another Filipino hero who is a very witty person,
Jose Rizal, once led Filipinos in a revolution against Spain. He is known as
the National Hero of the Philippines. He once said that, “On this battlefield,
man has no better weapon than his intelligence, no other force but his heart.”
He explained that it’s more wise to use a man’s own mind than his sword.
Meaning, there can be another way to end a conflict while getting the will or
the strength to fight from the heart. He also believed that if a man doesn’t
know how to love his own language is worse than an animal, stating that a
person doesn’t deserve to be similar of his own kind if he doesn’t know how to
communicate with them. But what if he met Socrates back then? Like what if a
time traveling machine was invented and Rizal used it to talk with Socrates? Do
you think that it will change the way Rizal is thinking? What I mean is, the
way he perceives the concept of life, wars and others. Do you think that he
would alter the Katipunan’s plans and
fought the Spaniards on his own?
Being a Filipino based on my own life experiences, we
are easily influenced if an unfamiliar group of people have shown us different
kind of things that we have never seen before. We, Filipinos, also has the
power to influence others just by smiling. But once we have achieved something
very important or precious, we always keep it for our future. Just like having
these characteristics such as being hospitable and brave, we are defined
uniquely by the world because of these strong traits.
