In my own insight, the kind of Filipinos I see on the social media are very aggressive. Some people are too ignorant when it comes to reacting on social media. As a matter of fact, in the Philippines a lot of citizen are expressing their feelings through this platform, in other words they are turning the social media as there daily-life diary. Before they post it or criticize a status of someone, they do not think first the possible outcome of their actions. Especially if the reason why they are criticizing this certain post or person, is that they hate the person or they were just offended by the post of this person.
In the Section 4 of Article III of the 1987 Philippine Constitution is about the Bill of Rights it specifically states that, “No law shall be passed abridging the freedom of speech, of expression, or of the press, or of the right of the people peaceably to assemble and petition the government for redress of grievances.” It talks about as a democratic country, all citizens are entitled to freedom of expression and the state ought to protect the constitutional right. It simply means that we Filipinos are free to express our ideas and beliefs through writing, speaking or demonstration without any fear of being sued. Thus, we do have freedom of expression but it does not give us the permission to hurt others because it will be counted as a violation of their rights as well. In addition, we also need to take into consideration the rights and feelings of other people. However, we should never abuse and misuse our freedom of speech.
Most of the citizen in the Philippines, had forgotten this law while using the social media continually. As a result, many of our citizen were accused for violating the law because they forgot to remember that hurting other’s feelings through writing, posting, commenting and whatsoever are against the law. It is very important to us netizens to always remember “think before you click.”
To conclude, many Filipinos are still doing the same mistake they did before and most of them are the youth. They always criticize someone in the Facebook, Twitter, and etc. even though they do not know the whole story. They easily believe in something they do not know. They let their eyes and anger fool them. In short, most of the citizen are gullible.
